Information for foreigners
The medical staff of České Budějovice Hospital shall provide help to all patients regardless of their nationality. To prevent misunderstanding when providing help for patients who are not Czech citizens, we hereby present some information below relating to the payment for the health care and to the communication of the hospital staff with foreigners.
Payment
If the foreign patient does not have appropriate health insurance, the hospital will require payment in cash for the health care provided. In exceptional cases, upon agreement, it is possible to pay by bank transfer.
Exchange office
On hospital premises, there is no exchange office. The patients should thus have adequate sum of money in Czech crowns. The nearest exchange office is situated in Česká spořitelny, Lidická tř. 78, České Budějovice. See the map of the town
Accepted foreign health insurance companies
Foreign patients from the EU member states who are in need of necessary health care should always have European Health Insurance Card with them, as well as supplement insurance in case of necessary transport to the native country.
In the world, there are a great number of health insurance companies and various types of health insurance. Each particular case is thus solved with individually in cooperation with the patient. For further information, please contact the responsible person in České Budějovice hospital:

Interpreters
The hospital does not have interpreters at its disposal. If the patient does not speak German or English, they are recommended to come to the hospital with an interpreter.
- The costs of interpreting are covered by the patient.
The patients without sufficient knowledge of Czech, English or German language usually find an interpreter themselves. If necessary, help can be requested by the embassy of their native country or by Jednota tlumočníků a překladatelů (Association of Interpreters and Translators).
Interpreting by phone is provided e.g. by SOPHIA. However, this company ensures interpreting only to some languages depending on the current possibilities of its employees. SOPHIA provides services 24 hours a day.
This service is covered by the patient!
The treating doctor is required to make a written record on using interpreting services.
