Our school is connected to eduroam

The eduroam is an international project dedicated to promoting mobility and roaming in National Research and Education Networks (NRENs). In the Czech Republic, this project is represented by CESNET. Our school joined this project in 2021. This was a further step to increase the quality of the provision of studies and the prestige of the institution.

One account. Anywhere.

A registered participant can use this wireless network (wherever it is available) with one user account. The account is administered by the home (setting up) organization.

Using roaming is simple, a properly configured subscriber’s device connects automatically when the eduroam network is available. This is similar to how roaming connections to foreign mobile operator networks work. Hence the acronym: education roaming.

The service is free for all subscribers.

Activating an eduroam account

The username used in eduroam consists of two parts – the username itself and the real name. You will add the @ sign and vstecb.cz after the username you are used to from other school systems in roaming. You will also need to set up an eduroam password before you can use roaming.

Setting up user devices to connect to eduroam

To connect to eduroam securely, it is not enough to just enter a username and password. You also need to set up certificate checking, the easiest way to do this is with eduroam CAT, see the documentation on eduroam.cz.

For manual setup you will need the following information:

  • network name (SSID): eduroam
  • connection protocol: 802.1x
  • security and encryption: WPA2/AES
  • Authentication: PEAP (alternatively TTLS)
  • Internal authentication protocol: MS-CHAPv2
  • RADIUS server name: eduroam.vstecb.cz
  • Certification Authority: which certificate to use?
  • IP address is assigned automatically via DHCP

Covered premises

eduroam is available in all indoor areas of the school.

Traffic filtering

The school’s pupil traffic is filtered in accordance with the laws of the country.

Visitor traffic is not interfered with except for filtering outgoing SMTP traffic (TCP/25), use SMTPS (TCP/465) and/or Submission (TCP/587) services to send mail.

Support

Users of our school can contact us by email at podpora@mail.vstecb.cz or phone +420 775 867 040.

Visitors with an eduroam account should seek support primarily from their home institution, i.e. the one that provided the account.
